Fantasy translator Andreas Heckmann in conversation

Andreas Heckmann has worked as literary translator for S. Fischer, Klett-Cotta, Heyne and cbj among other publishers. As established translator of “genre fiction”  he faces many challenges that differ from those allegedly more ‘literary genres’ but are no less complex. In their conversation Andreas Heckmann and Fantasy-scholar Bettina Burger explore such questions as: How faithful should translators of fantasy be to the source text? Which names and terms require translation in the first place? And how do you get to work in a job that must seems like a dream to any fantasy geek? Questions from the audience and fans are more than welcome!

German-language event – English phrasing may occur in some places!
